Why we like Koch Cabinets

Started in 1989 by Jim, Dan, and Fred Koch when they purchased a building known in the area as the “Old VFW Dance Hall” in Seneca, Kansas. Their love for woodworking led them to creating a world class cabinet manufacturing firm with a focus on providing a quality product, that is made in the U.S.A., and at an affordable price.

In keeping with our company values of supporting other family owned businesses, partnering with local and regional manufacturers to strengthen the economy, and increase the quality of life for the people of the area. All of the Koch Cabinets that we sell are manufactured in Whitesburg, TN, a rural unincorporated community in Northeast Tennessee’s Hamblen County. In the 1970’s Mr. Young took a piece of his property, built the facility, and started Young’s Furniture. Mr. Young and his family still live down the road from the factory.

Rift Cut Read Oak is a Red Oak specially cut to produce a straight grain appearance. There may be individual features and character marks that will appear that are natural to the wood grain. Knots and streaks will vary from piece to piece. Not every door or front will show knot or streak characteristics. This grade is specifically intended for a painted finish and is significantly harder than other paint-grade woods. Medium density fiberboard – MDF- is a high grade, composite material that is made from recycled wood fibers and resin. MDF is machine dried and pressed to produce dense sheets of material that stands up well to changes in heat and humidity. Cherry Hardwood will darken in a short period of time. When ordering your door, understand it will be lighter in color than a sample block. Depending on the age of this color block will determine how much lighter. In addition, this sample does not display a true picture of the characteristics of the wood but only the basic color tone. Cherry has wide variations in grain and can contain some white areas that, even when stained, will be lighter than the basic red color. Knotty Alder will contain natural sound defects and possess all inherent characteristics of the species. Minimal to no color or grain matching is done to preserve strong character. Some of the characteristics that will be represented are mineral streaks, natural color variations, grain variations and naturally occurring tight, open and cracked knots. Open knots will be structurally “sound” and will not be seen through. The amount, size and placement of natural characteristics will vary, and the consistency (or lack of) is not considered cause for replacement. Drawer fronts, applied moldings and small raised door panels may not include knots. General characteristics of Alder are: generally pale pinkish-brown to reddish peach in color with a subtle grain pattern which may include small pin knots, grain “fuzz” and a small amount of mineral streaks. Knotty Alder generally finishes smoothly and takes stain uniformly. We do not guarantee that each piece will have rustic characteristics.
